IIoT edgeDevices and appliances enable data routing across network boundaries. They establish secure connections of data sources and systems in the field with the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

This enables communication between the otherwise separate process levels.

Central tasks are: collection, pre-processing, buffering and forwarding of sensor data to make it available for other networks and systems.

Depending on the device type, this is done both horizontally within the Operational Technology (OT) and vertically for connection to different cloud platforms or on-premise servers.
